Vehicle Security. |

There has been an increase in theft of mopeds, scooters and motorbikes in Scarborough and Eastfield. We have been conducting patrols, both to prevent crime from occurring and to target those who have been committing the thefts. Below is some advice on how to secure your vehicle as it may be vulnerable to theft. Our advice is to Trace, Lock, Cover.
Trace – Consider fitting a tracking system. This can improve the chances of recovering your vehicle if it is stolen. Many systems are battery operated and activate once the vehicle is stolen. They track the vehicle by GPS and other detection systems.
Lock – Research what is the best lock(s) for your budget. Consider using more than one type of lock. Check out disc locks, U or D locks, maybe consider a chain and lock. Don’t rely solely on your steering lock, it can be snapped off too easily.
Remember not to leave your lock laying on the ground, it makes it a target to a sledgehammer.
Cover – Using a cover instantly makes it harder for a thief to know what make and model the vehicle is. A cover also provides another time-consuming obstacle for the thief. Security - If you park your vehicle on your private property, consider CCTV whether it is a doorbell camera, or one attached to your house. Maybe think about a security light with a motion sensor.
Security marking parts of your vehicle will make it difficult for criminals to sell the parts on, therefore making it less attractive to steal. You can contact your local policing team via our website www.northyorkshire.police.uk to book security marking.
We will continue to patrol your neighbourhood. If you have any information which you think may help our investigations, please contact 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
